Pediatric Injury Therapy

Thank heavens kids are resilient! Falling out of trees, tumbling down the stairs, flipping over handlebars or flying off of skateboards would all lay most adults up for weeks! Most of the time, kids manage to shake it off with little more than scratches, bumps and bruises. Sometimes, though, even kids get hurt. Whether it happens during their best Evel Knievel impersonation or an athletic event depends on the child. If/when it happens, knowing a good physical therapist is a great way to get kids back in the game quickly.

Sometimes, injuries are clear-cut and easy to identify. Other times, issues arise without a clear reason. It can be extremely frustrating for parents to get answers to issues when the problem isn’t crystal clear.

If your child finds himself/herself struggling with pain or inability to participate in activity due to an injury (or unknown reason), one of Cardin & Miller Physical Therapists can be an excellent resource. Children are playing sports at younger ages than ever before. Unlike years ago, many children “specialize” in one sport now versus playing a variety of sports throughout the year. While it seems logical that playing and practicing one sport all year long would be helpful for mastering that sport, it can also create challenges. “Overuse” injuries are much more commonplace today than in years past. Well-meaning doctors often advise rest for injuries. Parents and kids get frustrated when their pain subsides, only to return as they return to their desired sport/activity. This is exactly where a knowledgeable physical therapist can help!

Some common issues that Cardin & Miller Physical Therapists can help with include:

  • Heel pain (Sever’s heel), achilles tendonitis, heel bursitis
  • Knee pain (Jumper’s knee; Osgood Schlatter’s; etc.)
  • Flat feet (plantar fasciitis & tendon issues)
  • Shoulder & elbow issues in throwers
  • Shin splints
  • Postural issues (back/neck pain)
  • Muscle strains, ligament sprains, and rehab following trauma or surgery.

If your child is struggling with any of these issues, give us a call. One of our experienced Physical Therapists in Carlisle, Mechanicsburg or Harrisburg will thoroughly evaluate your child and develop a treatment plan aimed specifically at his/her needs.

If you are concerned about making too big of a commitment, have no fear! We offer our One-on-One Free Screen option for parents/families just like you!
